It was 5.30pm. I was on my way back home, driving my tangerine MYVi, listening to my favourite radio station, flyFM. It was raining outside. There was something mentioned by the radio DJ that actually caught my attention, then I slowly pumped the volume up.

So, I am planning to make this blog a bit interesting by writing some stories about my experience in the wards. It could probably help me in my learning process too.
This week my group was allocated to the Respiratory wards for ward rounds, observing clinical cases and bedside teachings. One thing for sure, we learned a lot from interesting cases that we saw in the clinics and wards.
Most of the cases are due to the presenting complaint of shortness of breath aka dyspnoea aka chuan (Hokkien) aka sesak nafas (Malay) aka uhh..I forgot to ask what does it call in Tamil.
Among the cases that are worth to remember:
1) A 13 year old boy presented to the clinic with shortness of breath and abdominal distension. When X-ray was done, there was a massive tumor (germ cell tumor most probably) compressing the lung and was just next to his heart. Treatment : Surgery was partly impossible due to the critical location, however germ cell tumor responds quite well to radio/chemo therapy.
2) A 49 years old gentleman presented to the casualty with a 1 month history of progressive shortness of breath associated with fatigue, weight loss and a history of chronic recurrent cough. He was initially suspected to having TB, but the sputum smear turned out to be AFB negative. On physical examination, there was prominent scratch marks over his limbs, yellow sclera (jaundice), oral thrush, hepatomegaly and bibasal creps on lung auscaltation. Oral thrush?? Think of HIV! After bronchoscopy being done, the result was PCP (pneumonia). So, when we asked about multiple sexual partner, he said " Sekarang takda, tapi dulu-dulu ada laaa..." *Oo....okeyyy....*. No wonder he was divorced. Err...
3) A 37 year old gentleman presented to the casualty with a history of productive cough with yellowish sputum associated with SOB, night sweats, fever, weight loss and loss of appetite. A typical TB presentation isn't it? He was diagnosed with TB for the past 4 months and he is still on his TB medication. He claims to be compliant on his medication under DOTS because he needs to go to the clinic everyday to get the tablet and the TB treatment card signed. I was just wondering how he got TB so I asked about his occupation and social history. He said he was a lorry driver loading factory's stuffs. When asking about recreational drugs, he said " Dulu pernah la, tapi dah lama berenti..." We then asked, "Ambik apa ek?" he replied "Ganja" aka marijuana. Remember, greater risk of TB exposure includes homeless and IVDU!
Then I peeked on his medical file stating "KES POLIS". He was hospitalised months ago due to violence attack by a stranger and he was stabbed on his head. He never mentioned this to us. Obviously his memory was slightly impaired due to the attack kott or maybe he was in denial state. Yeah then I knew why there were 4 police officers "berkampung" at the corner of the bed observing us carefully when we were examining the patient! Haihss...(=.=)
4) There were quite a few of cases with drug induced hepatitis in TB patient. The liver function is impaired due to TB medication ( especially pyrazinamide ). The side effect usually shows up within the 1st month of medication. However, there was one male patient presented himself to the clinic with the same problem (hepatitis) but not within his 1st month of medication. It was possible that the medication itself causing hepatitis but there should be something else to find out. When asking him about recent travel history, he replied " Amsterdam! " Ouh, need not asking for further questions! (Amsterdam-sexual city-whatever you think he was doing over there-red light district-hepatitis) Bingo!!
There's actually alot to share but I think this should be enough at least for this post. I'll try to share some other stories (if there's any interesting stuffs to share laa...=p~) on next time around.
Ima & me in Klinik Sakit Dada~
Next week : Endocrine Wards!!
p/s I'm actually scared to death of all these infectious diseases ( TB, pneumonia, HIV etcs ). Praying hard that I wont get infected! Precaution..precaution..precaution!
with you beside me, and how you loved me then, yeah
I’ll never be the same I’m caught inside
the memories of promises of yesterdays
and I belong to you
I just can’t walk away ‘cuz after loving you
I can never be the same
You led me here, then I watched you disappear
You left this emptiness inside and I can’t turn back time
No! Stay! Nothing compares to you
nothing compares to you
I can’t let you go
can’t let you go
I can’t let go
I can never be the same,
not after loving you,
not after loving you,
No
I’ll never be the same I’m caught inside
the memories of promises of yesterdays
and I belong to you
I just can’t walk away ‘cuz after loving you
I can never be the same
I can never be the same
I will never be the same
Woah woah woah woah woah
I just can’t walk away
No I can’t walk away from you
This is currently my favourite song and rock band to listen at.
I 'm aware of this blog abandoning but I just cant help it. I'm totally busy with my schedule and classes and the worst thing is, it's going to be much tougher than what I'm currently experiencing now.
I'm now officially a car driver on road! A reckless one I should say. Heh. Driving without being "HON-ed" ( does this word even exist? ) is just impossible for me. Penang roads and the drivers are all crazy! And suddenly I realized I'm becoming one of those crazy drivers too!
My everyday routine for this 2 weeks time is going back and forward from Georgetown to Seberang Jaya Hospital for ward rounds and bedside teachings from morning till noon, and lectures / tutorials in the evening. Weekends are for revision and case reports submission.
Ohh, I have nothing else to say here except to say that I'm now mastering my driving skills and familiarising myself with the driving attitude here in Penang! Back to my case reportsss....till we meet again on next post...
Because today is my special day (i.e my birthday), so I was 'pampering' myself with some painting activities which I missed doing 'em very very very much!
I've been looonging to customize my own shoes because I thought shoes painting is the "in thing" right now. So, I bought all the needed stuffs the day after the exam had ended. If you are interested in shoes painting, I can give you some tips. I mean, tips for the beginners, as this is my first attempt doing it. =)
First of all, what you need is:
1) A pair of very cheap white shoes. I bought this from Penneys for just 4 euros.
2) Acrylic paint set
3) White and black fabric/paint markers
4) Pencils
5) Assorted brush pack
Once you are equipped, you can now start painting!
First step is to coat the shoes with white paint. This is the base colour. Let 'em dry first.
Second step is to use your imagination and make a sketch on the shoes using the pencil. Then, make an outline out of the sketching using the black fabric marker pen.
Third step is to paint! Make sure to use your creativity. Remember, creativity has no boundary! =)
Fourth step is to refine the design using the white/black fabric marker and complete the other half of the shoes! =)
Finally, this is what I get!! yeyy, my own birthday present for this year!
Away you go~
Additional infos:
1) For the finishing, usually the wood (yes, wood!) varnish is used just to make sure that the colours won't fade away. I'm going to search for it later...=p
2) I spent a whole day making this!
3) Finally! hehe~
4) I'm thinking of making my second shoe design after this...hurmm...(^.^) or...as a present for someone special, maybe? =p~
So, just a quick recap on my TOSCE exam that I had this noon. I was being positioned in the very last group for the examination. I spent like 4 whole days before just to get prepared for a 30-minutes session. But I still say it was worth it.
I got a case on Leukemia where the patient presents with nosebleed. Actually this particular topic was my least expectation out of all cases that we've covered through the semester. But, thanks to my instinct and super determination to read through all the cases and try to get all important points on my fingertips. ( Read: TRY ).
I've been asked to take the History of presenting complaint and past medical history, was asked to examine the spleen ( the JC1/2 stuffs!!!) grrr...). And lastly to list down the management for diagnostic purposes and the signs and symptoms of a leukemic patient. Basically, I just shouted out peripheral blood film, FBC, LFT for coagulation status, bone marrow sample etcs...And for the symptoms basically are infiltration based problem like hepatosplenomegaly-sign: pain and tenderness, bone infiltration lead to pain and fracture, susceptible to infection based on the patient experiencing meningitis previously....yeah that's basically it!
Overall, it went OK...oh yeah and thanks to my lovely mama who sent me a beautiful message yesterday. It does somehow boost me to do better this time...well, i hope so, I really do...Mama, missing you already....! =)
" OK, GOOD LUCK. Try your very best. Mama and papa doakan Ngah (me) lulus cemerlang. Mama suruh Azri and A'an lagi juga doa (my bros). Bismillah, dear ALLAH, the lady reading this is beautiful, classy and strong and I Love her. Help her live her life to the fullest. Please promote her and cause her to excel above her expectations. Help her shine in the darkest places where it is impossible to love. Protect her at all times, lift her up when she needs YOU the most and let her know when she walks with YOU, she will always be safe. Love you !! " ~mama~
I did burst into tears when I read this. Thanks Mama, you are always loved...
"Lama tak nampak? ( takleh nak tumpu study la kat situ ) "- Sunsilk commercial, 2006.
So yeah, basically the same goes to me. I just couldn't concentrate on my studies if I continue on updating this blog very often. *Ha-ha*. But I guess now it's the time for me to take just a little break out of my busy routine and write at least something.
Yeah, it's now the time for me and for you to realize that 2008 is a closed chapter of life. Yet, for us muslims, we've started fresh and anew a couple of days before, haven't we? *blink-blink*. The new year has taken the possession of time. Wow, how time passes by ~ at a ridiculous rate, huh?
The chances of new hope have arisen. And it is time we go ahead. On the bright side, I think it makes playing another year all the more appealing, dont you think? =) Ah, still cant believe it's been a whole year! Do I have something interesting on how to kick-start the new year? How bout, the new-year resolutions?
Ummm...*thinking cap on*. Nah, I'm not going to talk about the whole boring thing of new year's resolutions and stuffs. In fact, I usually have trouble sticking on my so-called-resolutions. *Hu-hu* Therefore I believe that the only way to make it really happen is by keeping them just to myself. Yupp! just to keep it secret in my deepest heart. It's always easy to say, but it definitely requires the maximum determination to make dreams come true.
Actually, I really really want to make a full, complete version of my year-end wrap up but unfortunately the time doesn't allow me. Uh, again, blame it on the TIME! This is the bad habit that I really wanted to get rid off. I should organize things better than just blaming on the spinning clock ( oops, a resolution unintentionally revealed ). Or....NO!! Not because of the time, but I guess there had been soooo much things happened all through year that I couldn't even summarize! Yeah, I'm being positive here. I should be more positive after this ( *sigh* another new year resolution revealed! )
Err, see? At first I said that I wanted to keep my new-year resolutions secretly, just to myself, but within a second ( a second! ) I already had trouble sticking on it. Now, you now how problematic I am in this.
***********
OK Let's forget about things mentioned above and I would like you to listen on this. This is actually my cover version of the song "Kuintai Cinta Dalam Rahsia by Jeslina Hashim". The lyrics has nothing to do with me *seriously, I'm not trying to hide something here - uhuk uhuk* But just because I like the melody plus I was a bit stressed out that I wanted to sing out loud!
Exclusively for the year end of 2008, I brought you....
-or you can listen to a 'clearer' version HERE too =)-
Yeah the sound is obviously with no good quality at all as I just sang along the original song. But I guess you can still make a clear distinction between my voice and the original singer. =p~ Mind you, I was just singing for FUN! So, just bare with my voice if it sounds irritating *lol* Whateverr..
p/s Salam Maal Hijrah 1430 & Selamat Tahun Baru 2009! Wishing you a better life ahead...=)
Yeah.. yeah..I have to admit that I have been starting to ignore this blog lately. Reasons why?
1) I have been busy..well, u know why...otherwise, please refer to my previous post...
2) I've noticed that blogosphere now isn't as 'WILD' as it used to be when I first started blogging actively about 5 months ago..anyone (bloggers) would like to agree with me..??
3) My definition of entertainment has just changed lately. I hooked up on YouTube a lot more than bragging about this blog. I recently just found a very cool YouTube channel of the "Decimal Brothers". I would like to recommend you guys to really watch their videos. They are freaking hilarious and are the coolest people I've ever met on YouTube!! They really put a whole lot of efforts in some of their videos.
4) Another contributing factors: the slowwww running laptop and sometimes the problem with internet connection...yes, internet here sucks too and killing my precious timee..!
Oh yeah...must be wondering about the title, right..? I was reading the Yahoo! News and suddenly I came across this weird story: (click to enlarge)
Hurmm, never thought that 'supernatural figures' can actually 'protect' you? Think again...=p. And, a personal note for all burglars out there; Take this as a lesson! This is a classic example of "Sepandai-pandai tupai melompat, akhirnya jatuh ke tanah juga.." by any means possible. I stress again here...ANY! means possible...
Yoshh! Last night was a blast! I went to the Chocolate Ball Party organized by the Caribbean African Society-it was for fundraising and all the money goes directly to the AidAfrican Organization to help the children of Africa who've been suffering from AIDS.
Chocolateyy yumm...~
The RED CARPET!
Sponsored by REDBULL!
The aftermath-I felt soo detached from the Medical stuffs and later I decided to have this shot! At least this would remind me of something like..."Exam is around the corner..?" yeah, that's that!=p
Ouch! Speaking of Exam, yes my exam will start on 12th January, which is about 38 days from now! Lately, I've been devoting myself to the peaceful library and booksss! I think I have to start forgetting my plan to go to London for this coming winter holiday..
Since this is my last semester here before I continue my studies in Penang, I've been trying to refrain myself from making such regretful decisions. Well, so far so good (Alhamdulillah) and I hope everything will continue on going smooth and fine along this journey of becoming a DOCTOR..=) InsyaAllah...
Wowowo...so much diseases, so much treatments, so much drugs to learn and memorize! I really wish that I could just put the 'LAUGH OUT LOUD (LOL)'answer on each "What-treatment-would-you-prescribe...?" kinda question; based on the saying, "Laughter is the best medicine". Well... I guess NOT! Life would'nt be as simple as that, huh?
p/s: For those yang teringin nak melihat mukaku mengisi ruang-ruang klinik atau hospital, doa-doakanlah kejayaanku ini..semoga kita semua beroleh keberkatan dari-NYA..=)
p/s (update)- Heard some news about the massive landslide in Bukit Antarabangsa. Seriously, people should start taking this as an alarming lesson..
p/s/s- SALAM AIDILADHA BUAT MUSLIM SELURUH DUNIA...
On many occasions I've come across people talking wildly and loudly on cellphones. And not surprisingly I've encountered these so called self-important-cellphone-guys@girls mostly in the public transports. And yes, I met one of these guys just a few hours ago when I was on the bus. Somehow I thought that this is downright unacceptable to the public. People who talk LOUDLY on their cell phones in places where it’s reeeaally not necessary. I mean, c'mon, don't you feel a slight embarrassment when the whole bus can hear you talking about the rashes and spots you have on your buttocks? ( OK, mind you, this is a pure example I wrote here... ).
What I'm saying here is, I don’t want to hear about other people’s personal problems while I’m out! Well it's not just about hearing the problems they are having (duh, like I care!), but I can get easily annoyed by just listening to the LOUD voices.
On one occasion, there was a young lady sitting opposite to me on the bus. Her cellphone suddenly rang and of course being an example taken for this entry, she spoke loudly as she was furious with her son being repulsive. (if the memory still serves me right.) And sitting next to me, was a man showing an utterly annoyed face with the conversation she was having with her son. At one point the lady asked something requiring a 'YES' answer from her son. And the man, being occupied with the thought of giving her some lessons on this, blurted out a "YES" right in front of her face! Oh my... at that strike moment I was shocked! BUT at the same time I realized myself giggling deep inside. Hahaha...take that young lady!
Well, I just need those who'd realized themselves being the "public enemy" to show some respects. Most of the times, it relied on people showing respect, but it didn't really work. Or, should we now start to implement what have been done by the France, Finland, German, Denmark and Austria on this—offer similar "quiet compartment" sanctuaries on trains??
p/s Psychologically, I can feel that people are self-absorbed and have poor self-esteem on a societal level, constantly needing to reassure themselves that someone likes them by keeping their phones glued to their ears. Don't you think?? (no sense of jealousy here..okeyy?? =P)
I've been busy working on my semester group project under the module Health, Disease & Society/Tropical Medicine. Basically this project requires us to come up with a 5-year intervention plan in fighting hunger, famine and malnutrition status in war torn Darfur, Sudan. There's a great humanitarian crisis going on, that has pulled the attention of many International Organizations in providing assistance to the population being affected there.
After having done a whole lot of research over the week, I've came across this website that supports a Hunger Relief 08 program. It's kinda odd to see how they desperately need even a grain of rice, while we are comfortably sitting here doing nothing and nothing at all!
See beyond their eyes. I can't stand watching these pictures without being emotional and doing nothing. Can you? So, why dont you join me in the effort of fighting world hunger and give them at least a tiny flicker of hope! If you are interested in doing so, just click on the banner below. Oh yes, and one more thing, make sure you have a dictionary along with you because I bet you're gonna need it. Trust my words ;)
For each answer you get right, you are donating 20 grains of rice through the UN World Food Program to help end the hunger!
p/s Just a saying from Dr. Phil : "If you got everything in the world, you value nothing..". So, give them your love!
OK. So, here goes my first movie review for the blog. I know I'm nor a movie neither a cinema freak but..Hey, everyone in this world deserves to have their own leisury-bubbly time to be spent! So, whenever I heard about movies with good reviews here and there, I would try giving myself a lil break and just go for it!
Oh yea...and everytime I'm reviewing a movie, I will give some credits to the 'promoter' who FIRST suggested me watching the movies. So guys & girls...if u, by any chance desperately need any sorts of credits from this blog, you should have gotten yourself a list of GREAT-GREAT movies to be shared with me. Heee...=p
First promoter : Razi. Thanx weii...this movie worths every nanosecond I spent on my laptop screen..=)
My rate: 4/5
A not-so-new movie. I've been longing to watch this movie ever since I was back in Malaysia during the recent summer holidays. But I have (maybe used to have =p) this principle of mine to not waste moneys watching any malay movies in cinemas. So, Razi anyhow had challenged me to try not to retain this personal principle by watching SEPI. But I havent got the chance to watch it before...until now. hehe...
Synopsis : " Three individuals in the city learn the meaning of love, loss and loneliness in this romantic drama. Adam, a successful young chef, creates confectionery masterpieces for weddings, yet has still to find his own bride. Then there is Sufi, who each day runs for miles in an attempt to outrun the memories of his dead wife. Finally, there is Imaan, a young playwright who discovers that theatre is a stage of where her past is finally resolved and her future is unveiled. All three strangers are inevitably linked to a single dramatic moment that transforms their lives forever."
My review : I love how the camera angles and every screenshot made probably under the direction of the talented Khabir Bhatia himself. You will feel as if u were in the movie! Coool. The scripts are fantastic. No dragging at all and I bet you wouldnt feel exhausted sitting on your couch ( or bed..lol) listening to the simple and meaningful lines that can linger in your head for quite a long time.
The blend of great scripts, great background songs and great cinematography really got you into it! The casts were no doubt having done their best job ever throughout the movie production. Yes, I mean everyone in the movie! I'm sure by the time you've done watching the movie , you'll definitely feel it's a worth-watching, that you will want to go and meet Khabir Bhatia himself and give him a round of applause straight on his face! Clap, Clap Clap!!
p/s : I did burst into tears at the very end part of the story...=( huhuhu...If u consider urself a heartless person, then try this movie!!
p/ss : Interested on watching the full movie? Just tell me personally..=) I'll send you a copy...

TAKEN
Directed By: Pierre Morel MPAA Rating: PG-13 Starring: Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace, Famke Janssen, Katie Cassidy Genre: Action/Thriller Release: 2008 July Length: 1H 33 min. My rate: 4.5/5 First promoter : Ima. haha..bes giler! Heart-racing from the beginning till end..=) Thanx promo...
I love thriller movies and this very movie just suits my taste really well.
Synopsis: "A former spy (Neeson) relies on his old skills to save his estranged daughter (Grace), who has been forced into the slave trade. Neeson is a retired CIA operative trying to piece together his broken family. After his intense career, his wife Lenore (Famke Janssen) has left him and remarried and he’s all but a stranger to his 17 year-old daughter Kim (Maggie Grace).
He finds the only way to reconnect with her and make peace with his ex-wife is to go against his better judgment and allow for Kim to travel to France with her girlfriends. He should have stood his ground though, because shortly after landing in the City of Lights, Kim and her friend are kidnapped by Albanians and sold as sexual playthings to the fabulously rich and the insanely powerful."
My review: Like I said, heart-pounding and adrenaline rushed from the beginning till the end of the movie. Liam neeson is perfectly cast in this role and wastes no time in blazing a trail of blood, bodies and bullets across paris in order to locate his daughter by any means necessary (even a little torture).
The action scenes are well staged and highly entertaining. The plot was a real smart and I love how Neeson acted cool but cunning in this movie, though I have to agree the other cast were not even near to Neeson's standard. =p But no doubt, a brilliant and tight thriller. A must-see!
Sharing experiences is definitely a great thing to do. I am fully aware that Raya celebration here in Dublin would never be the same as in Malaysia. Well, who knows? This might be my last time experiencing Eidulfitri here. Despite the fact that I am thousands miles away from my beloved family and relatives back home, Hari Raya here isn't that bad after all!! Surrounded by friends and acquaintances who are in the same situation as me, we all know that we need each other. One thing for sure, joys and happiness are to be shared together..!
RAYA CARDS
